Assos & Troy& Cesme & Foca
Coming from Istanbul by ferry from either the ferry port of Eceabat (4 hours from Istanbul) to Canakkale port (our preferred route) or from Erkihisar (1 1/2 hr. from Istanbul) to Topaular(Yalova) still a 3 hour drive to Canakkale. Total driving hours to Canakkale is approximately 6 hours, depending on traffic and ferry schedules. There are ferries every 30 minutes from Erkihisar/Topaular, but one should check for the ferry schedule for Eceabat/Canakkale it does not run as often.
Once arriving to Troy/Canakkale the site is very near and the monument to Gallipoli is striking. Canakkale has a new marina for seafarers which is offering an opportunity for people to charter yachts in this area in the near future. There is also a wonderful Turkish/Greek Island Bozcada that has beautiful wines and really is worth a visit. On this island you will find warm happy people to greet you. We do think that the accommodations although more simple in nature in Assos, is a more preferred place to enjoy the night than Canakkale.
The small harbor is picturesque but you must not miss the temple of Athena and the castle of at the top of the hill .
After Assos the drive south towards Foca, Cesme, Ayvalik or Kusadasi can be interspersed with many hours walking through the site of Pergamum. With one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, this site includes the Asclepieum among its many excavations, one of the steepest and most well preserved Hellenistic theaters in the world.
