After a 1 1/2 hour journey by hydrofoil from Skiathos to the port of Volos on the mainland, a further 2 1/2 hour air-conditioned coach journey through the plains of Thessaly to the monasteries of Meteora. As the coach approaches Meteora the sights are magnificent and spectacular mountains of rock ascend towards the heavens. The monasteries are built into the sides of the rocks or on top and used to be home for monks who dedicated their lives to worshipping God. You will have the chance to visit two of the monasteries and afterwards there is free time for lunch in Kalambaka, a town situated below the monasteries. The excursion is fully guided by a professional guide. Return back to Skiathos is at approx. 20.30.
