Even today coming to the centre of Porec one strongly feels the atmosphere of a small, stone mediterranean town with its priceless Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The streets of Porec are arranged in a manner characteristic of a Roman Parentium, with the main street from old times - Decumanus Street still its main artery pulsating with life. Euphrasius Basilica from the 6th century, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is the most beautiful preserved monument of early Byzantine art. The golden Byzantine mosaics on the central apse and on the floor deserve a special mention and should not be missed. It is here in summer that impressive classical music concerts take place.
Porec is an endearing destination for many tourists. Tourist villages of Plava Laguna(Blue Lagoon) and Zelena Laguna (Green Lagoon) and Lanterna are situated in green, wooded coves and offer rich rest and recreational facilities. Comfortable hotels, apartment villages and camps ensure for a pleasant holiday. Of course, we have not forgotten those searching for an active holiday - offering water sports and tennis courts for sport enthusiasts, while for those who prefer walks by the sea there is a nice promenade, lungomare… truly, there is something for everyone! If you want a bit of privacy, you don't have to go far - the right choice are the woody coves of St. Nicolas Island, only 420 metres from the coast, covered with mediterranean vegetation.
