Kos is the island of Hippocates, the father of modern medicine and it is two hours away by hydrofoil or a fast boat. Just of the main square is the ancient plane tree under which, it is said, Hippocrates made the world's first diagnosis and issued the first prescription. At Askleipion, 3 km from the town, stand the ruins of the world's first hospital where the father of medicine practised.
