Tours and Activities

The narrow mountain ridge at AETOS separates the north and south and is a favourite place for walkers who can overlook bays on either side of the ridge and interrupt their ramblings to visit the ruins of a citadel built in the 8th century and abandoned in Roman times. Some say this was the castle of Odysseus but frankly, the evidence is pretty thin.
Below is the pebble beach at PISO AETOS a favourite with anglers and a regular dropping point for day-tripping boats from Kefalonia.
A fairly decent road goes across the ridge and on to STAVROS, the largest village outside Vathi, that overlooks the sumptuous POLIS BAY. A rather aggressive civic statue of Odysseus dominates the tiny square and there is a tiny museum with local archaeological finds. A road north leads to the remote village of EXOGI, noted for its three pyramids built in 1933. The builder and his mother are buried under two of them.
The other north road out of Stavros leads to FRIKES, once a tiny fishing village now a thriving tourist port known for its good range of tavernas. Small, pebble beaches can be found to the south. The coast road brings you to the outrageously pretty village of KIONI spared the worst of the earthquake and the spewing concrete mixers that followed everywhere else. The small and pretty harbour is often stuffed with big and vulgar yachts and the village itself is neatly wrapped by expensively upmarket holiday homes. A small sand and pebble beach lies to the south.

Perantzada 1811   - Vathi-Ithaka

A picturesque hotel on a very picturesques Island and located at the picturesque port of Vathy. The hotel exterior of light-blue, sits in a neo-classical building which was designed by the 19th century architect Ernst Schiller. The traditional design of the building is innovatively combined with modern elements and selected works of art by prominent artists. It is the first hotel on this island of such caliber. Although it has a modern flavor the Greek colors of the sea (the carpets) and the oriental large pillows for laying surrounds you with the same wonderful views you see from your terraces.
