Hydra and Spetses These islands are normally only known to the visitor through one day cruises from Athens, but they are a great destination for those wanting to enjoy island life and who don't have a lot time to venture out to the further islands. They are just a two hour ride from Athens by hydrofoil. Horse and carriages greet you when you arrive, since cars are prohibited, and transport is by water taxi or small moped. During the summer months the ports are filled with beautiful yachts from Athens, creating a wonderful atmosphere. It is very easy to arrange excursions to the mainland in order to visit Nauplion and Epidaurus.
