Rhodes The Colossus of Rhodes no longer protects the port, but the walled town of Rhodes remains a monument to the medieval knights and Crusaders who once ruled the Mediterranean. Inside the mighty walls is a maze of narrow cobble-stoned streets lined with ancient temples and mosques established by the rich trade that flowed through her port. Long stays might be a bit exhausting during summer due to the high tourist traffic, but during the off-season it is very welcoming. Historical sites, as well as its proximity to Marmaris in Turkey, ensure a wonderful stay. Flights between Rhodes and Crete operate all year round, and ferry boats to Turkey make it easy to combine a few destinations and enjoy all the wonderful sites of this enchanting region, despite the maddening crowds.
